On May 13, 2006, the Touch a Truck Event Planning Committee hosted the second annual Touch a Truck Event at Niagara College, Glendale Campus. The Touch a Truck event helps to raise money for children's literacy in Niagara while providing an opportunity for families to spend the day together for a worthy cause.
More than 6, 000 children, parents, grandparents and other "young-at-heart" adults attended the event, helping to raise $12, 000 for children's literacy in Niagara.
In partnership with the Debbie Zimmerman Early Years Niagara Literary Award, proceeds from the event go toward the purchase of award-winning books for places where families and children gather, including all public libraries, Ontario Early Years Centres, regional child care centres, and licensed child care centres in Niagara.
The success of the Touch a Truck event is made possible through the outstanding support of Walker Industries, dozens of community volunteers, and sponsors.
The next Touch a Truck Event will be held in October 4, 2008 at Niagara College, Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus.
